Malmoe, Sweden

The power was always intoxicating. Zenid Spaz suppressed a smile as he stood before the three kneeling figures. The room was dimly lit, filled with a cold, metallic smell that mingled with the scent of fear. Slowly, he let the large, dark weapon glide back and forth in front of the two women and the man. The shadows from the gun danced across their faces, each movement bringing a new wave of terror.

All three followed his every movement with the gun, and Zenid could feel the familiar rush of adrenaline coursing through him. He reveled in their torment, in the power he held over life and death.

“So, who wants to die first?” His voice was calm, almost friendly.

None of them spoke, but Zenid saw the fear etched into their faces—a look he had seen many times before. It was the expression of someone forced to confront death face-to-face. Many simply couldn’t handle it; when a gun was shoved in their face, it was as if the very essence of life drained from them, almost like magic. But not everyone. There were always a few who had that special something, that X-factor that made them stand up and fight back, no matter the odds.

Zenid walked over to the man kneeling furthest to the right, his footsteps echoing in the large, cold chamber.

“What about you? How do we get your boss out of the basement the quickest?” Zenid bent down, staring directly into the man’s eyes.

The man remained silent, glaring hatefully at Zenid. Their eyes locked in a silent battle of wills.

Zenid crouched in front of him, tilting his head slightly. “What’s your name?” he asked, his tone softer.

The man straightened slightly, as if trying to reclaim a shred of dignity. “James.”

“James, listen. We’re here for your boss, not you. We have no use for you. So if you want to save your life, tell us how to get your boss out of that basement quickly. Sure, we could cut our way through the door, but it’s thick, and it will take time to get through.”

James forced a defiant smile, a spark of resistance in his eyes. “Sounds like you already have a plan.”

“Yes, James, we do. But plans can always be improved. And it’s in both of our interests to get Madeleine up here as soon as possible.”

“Why do you want her?”

Zenid slapped James hard across the face. James’s head snapped back from the unexpected blow, and he groaned. Blood slowly trickled from his lip as he struggled to sit up again. Zenid shook his head.

“You don’t ask questions, you answer them. Understood?”

James looked down at the blood on the floor in front of him, then up again. His gaze was now filled with a mix of hatred and resignation. “Yes.”

“Excellent! Now, where were we?”

A screen on a wall further away flickered, catching the attention of one of Zenid’s men, who walked over to it. A few seconds passed before the man called out, “Boss? You need to see this.”

Zenid placed his hands on his knees, groaning theatrically as he stood up.
